Colorado bound

I'm leaving work a little after 4 today to head to the airport with my friend Hema, the lady of Leisure. (That's what some call her because she works for the school district and has off for the entire summer. She loves to brag on facebook what the lady of leisure is doing on a relaxing summer day.) We are flying into Denver tonight. I'm really looking forward to our 2-hr drive tomorrow morning to Vail to start the wedding celebrations for Katie and Eric. Itinerary as planned: Thursday: • Scenic drive to Vail • Brunch with bachelorette party • Afternoon @Spa – getting the rain forrest massage – a massage that incportates multiple shower heads into the treatment. • Dinner and drinks with everyone at a pizza place in the village Friday: • Morning: maybe a short hike or something outdoors • Setting up dinner part of celebration • Taking a gondola up up to the top of Vail mountain for Katie and Eric's sunset wedding Saturday: plans still in the works Hoping to spend a lot of

Seattle's #1 Party Planner is leaving soon

After many years in Seattle, my friend Kindra and her boyfriend are going to rent out their house and move to either Amsterdam, London, San Francisco or New York, depending on where she lands a job. I have been fortunate to be friends with such a great, genuine gal who has throw the best parties I have ever been to. Bunny Love - where I dressed up like a little chick, Birthday party at the Zoo - where we all dressed like animals (Little Chick was back by popular demand), Her boyfriend Mike's plaid party tour bus, Labyrinth New Years Eve and now the recent Twin Party on a train. (the name was a little more raunchier) This past Saturday she threw a party for her and 3 friends' birthdays at the Orient Express. This place is comprised of several cabooses. It was epic. You were encouraged to be a twin with someone. Not sure what to wear, my friend Scottie and I decided to be twins. We wore our awesome never-owned 1980's Catholic Seamen's Club Sweatshirts. We decided to go fo

Mary Wilson present the Supremes Legacy collection

Image
The Experience Music Project (EMP) celebrated its 10th Anniversary Saturday. I went early to check out the most recent exhibit – Dresses worn by the Supremes from Mary Wilson's private collection. I have never been much into sequence but loved seeing the remake of the popular peacoat jacket all sparkly.

Bands Only

Bands Only Upstairs Originally uploaded by Paul Swortz 2 weekends ago, I volunteered for Noise for the Needy. An annual event that has a bunch of shows where all the profit goes to a local organization. This year proceeds went to Teen Feed. The group works with the community to offer support to meet basic needs, build strong relationships, and ally with homeless youth as they meet their future off the streets. In this photo, I was monitoring the "green room." My main role this year at several shows was to make sure only bands were in the restricted area, where we would put out Pabst beer, pizza and sometimes other food. This year was easy as we didn't have any national headliners requiring special things in their non-existent dressing rooms so I didn't have to keep telling other bands to keep their paws off the main bands stuff.

Quick meals

Image
One of the foods I have grown to like is Sushi. I haven't tried everything but my favorite is the Seattle Roll. Uncooked Salmon wrapped in rice with avocado and cucumber. If you can get past the fact that its uncooked, ITS DELICIOUS!!!!! Funny enough a similar roll is called the Philly roll and instead of cucumber, it has cream cheese with the salmon and avocado. I swung by Blue C Sushi while running errands. Most the dishes are on a conveyor belt and you grab what you want. I picked up two Seattle rolls (8 bite size pieces) and edamame. Quick meal for under $10. At Blue C Sushi, the plates are color coded, matching the prices shown on the wall.

1st week of June recap

Image
Memorial weekend was super busy because of the fundraiser/fashion show that was to help raise funds for my neighborhoods 1st festival so this past week was all about relaxing....but still busy. On Thursday, I finally got to attend one of Glenn's readings. There is now a hardcover version of the book now. He has been getting a lot of praise from cancer survivors for finally putting a book out that's not simply about how someone is a survivor and how they beat cancer. He wrote the brutally honest truth of the things people go through and the relationships you build when going through chemo. Its not pretty and through his twisted humor, he wanted people to see and understand the dark side of the disease and how hope and happiness can still exist. You don't just get the disease, go away to deal with it and come back a survivor, there is a huge in between section that truly makes that person a survivor. He said that people through the age of 15 to 50 are in this lost area of th

Wedding Bells

Jessica (aka Jo Jo) and Eric, yery good friends of mine eloped in Vegas on Monday. I'm very happy for them and wanted to save and share Eric's story of their wedding day adventure since its magical in its own way. Sorry its not me. Have to find the right fella to take that step and I'm not settling for just anyone. Why should I. People! Many or most of you are already aware, but just to cover our bases... on Monday 31 May Twenty Ten, Jessica and I were married at the Faithful Love Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Five things to know: 1. We did not plan this in advance. I spent a week in the Grand Canyon, we rendezvoused at the LV Hilton for a 3-day weekend on Saturday, and the subject just kind of came up. 2. The deed was done during daylight hours and there was no booze involved. Until after the ceremony. 3. There were no Elvis impersonators and no flying midgets. 4. Jessica is not taking my last name. Why would she? It rhymes with baloney, the particle board of luncheon
