Times are good, even when you act dead

Last weekend had so many great things to it that I went to work Monday morning happier than I have in a long time. I had worked late on Friday and was in NO MOOD to party it up. I said I would go to my friend's ZOMBIE-themed birthday party so not only was I not in the mood to party, I wasn't in the mood to zombie-fy myself. I went and really glad I did because Ingo's 30th birthday was an absolute blast. Here is her husband Andy's photos to prove it. Saturday I had to work. Yep, working on a saturday. Its that crazy time of year. I overslept and didn't get in as soon as we all agreed but I got everything done that day so I wouldn't have to come in Sunday. I worked until 7 and then napped in preparation for a long night of dancing. It was the Emerald City Soul Club Weekender with tons of DJs spinning rare soul music from 8pm until 4am!!!! Its funny that myself and several "8:36" friends all had nap-related photos at 8:36 that night because we were all

Low-key weekend

Image
This weekend has been SUPER low-key. The weather made me want to just stay warm and be productive and productive it was. Friday I worked late and ended up missing an art opening that I really wanted to go to. Once I left work, knowing I missed the art show event, I wasn't in the mood to start hunting people down to see what they were up to so I headed home and caught up on some reading. Saturday and Sunday I got a lot of things accomplished such as finally finishing the mending of my friend Chris's two jackets. Chris is a fashion designer yet doesn't sew himself. WHAT!!!!! He designs/concepts and is great at picking patterns and colors but outsources the actual work. This is his company, Like a Rockstar . He asked me to mend two old jackets for his own wardrobe. The armpits were completely ripped, probably from too much dancing and debauchery. The jackets had lining so not only did I want to fix the arm rips, I want to fix the lining and rips in the old jackets. The jackets

Scooters galore

Last weekend was GREAT! Not only was it Halloween at McLeod and scaring people at work, it was also The Los Gatos Gordos Scooter club Rally. Saturday I rode 7.5 miles with Brian and Paco up to Kona Kitchen to meet other riders for breakfast. Kona Kitchen is owned by this dude, from Karate Kid II. He was the bad guy. It was amazing weather to ride. Though I was hungover from too much champagne at McLeod the night before, the guys convinced me into taking part in the race — the Taco Time Trial Race. I stuck with Paco most the trip since I didn't care to actually race and his scooter kept stalling. The Race goes like this.... Get an address to a Taco Truck, ride there, eat a free taco and get an address to the next spot. I actually didn't eat any Tacos because I was more interested in gulping down watering before racing to the next stop. I rode about 12 miles with Paco before we got to our neighborhood and he decided to call it quits to get ready for work. Since it was a gorgeous

A tiny home

I'm all for the "small house movement," living in the smallest size possible for the # of people it occupies. (This home is obviously best suited for 1 occupancy) The less space, the less material stuff. The less space, the more creative you have to be with organizing.

Booked!

Lets hope it doesn't take me 3 days to get to Philly this holiday season. Bad news: Same airline (Continental) that cancelled all flights to Newark last year, causing me to spend 3 days in various airports Good news: This time, I booked direct flights and it was cheapier than previous holidays. Wish me luck for smooth travels.

Oh McLeod, you were a good place for me....

That things happen for a reason and this place made me feel more at home. I made many friends through this house-party like atmosphere. Due to fire-code/landlord issues, Buster and crew had to vacate a year ago. This year, owner of BathTub Gin wanted a bigger space than his own bar to have parties halloween weekend so he rented the place out and invited us McLeod peeps. So we went Friday night and partied. a complex thought

a complex thought Originally uploaded by ::: a i m e e ::: I passed this the other day and was reminded how much I love the sound of waterfalls. I would love to have some type of water fountain in my future backyard where I can hear the relaxing sound of water and maybe that structure coud be beneficial to the house or land we are on. Maybe it would run off solar power and the water pressure will somehow also help with energy that the house needs. I'm more familiar with solar power than I am with the power of using water pressure but I would love to have a house thats fueled off the power of the sun and water.

Buying time

A month ago my coworker informed us it was his cancer anniversary and the day prior his best friend died of cancer. He asked us to consider donating bone marrow. Through www.marrow.org you sign up to be in the registry then they send out the cotton swabs shown here to rub your mouth with then send it back to them in special packaging they provided. Now I can help save someone elses life if I end up being a match for one of the many people fighting diseases. I am very lucky to be healthy and have the life I have. This just a little way of being there when someone may need me.

My mom just sent me a picture message of Eleanor, Cheryl and Pat at the annual Galooper's Home Management Seminar. Growing up I knew mom and my aunts would go to the "HMS" but had no clue until I got older that it was a bunch of bull. It's a girl's weekend where they drink, eat junk, laugh a lot and who knows what else. Looks like they are having amazing weather down in Long Beach Island (jersey shore)

Technology can add to stress

Part of my research for my Typography class this week was looking into ways technology has affected Seattle and its culture. Days of people lounging at coffee shops, chatting with friends and reading books has become cafe tables filled with computer screens, people's faces hiding behind them. Granted people still meet others to have coffee and catch up for various reasons but along with the isolation at the coffee shops, everyone's faces are not facing each other anymore, they are facing their computer or phon screens. Take notice how many people are glued to phones. I AM ONE OF THEM. I check my email, the weather, the news every break I can. BUT when I'm with company, I do my best to set it aside....unless my company is preoccupied "twittering" or texting messages to others. I don't twitter....I think I do enough. I want to have limits. In this research, I decided that I want to "go off the grid more" meaning stay offline for so many hours. In my r

Welcoming fall damp weather with warm dishes

Thursday was chilly and drizzly so what better to welcome October than with soup! Last night I experimented and made Butternut Squash & Pear soup. I knew it wouldn't be ready for dinner so I made kahlua yams. Yams were delicious and my apartment smelled amazing once the soup was simmering.

Some favors are stranger than others

Image
Last night I was asked to sit in a room in front of the mic and make sex sounds playing off the male voice & music I had to listen to. It was weird and I'm getting over a cold so I doubt my vocals will end up in the clip. I think I sounded like a cat in pain. Ha! No it's not for a porn or some shady person asking me to do such a thing. Request came from a well respected crew of people. I can't say much more about their project but it was odd. Weirdest favor I was ever asked.

At least I'm with good company while we crank away at getting projects out the door.

8:36 Prepping figs for "Fig & Lemon Chicken" dinner Originally uploaded by ::: a i m e e ::: I know I'm slacking again!!! Dinner is in the over so I have time to write. I like baking more than cooking on the stovetop because I can multi-task. Ok update... Loving the scooter. Was featured in the local paper's online music section (check out photos below by Matt Hickey) Saw two reunion shows of two bands I love last week. We had a company outing to a Mariners game BUT a quarter of the office, including me, was stuck working. By the time I left the office, the game was running major overtime into a 13th inning so I decided to meet everyone in the suite. Unfortunately the room was already cleaned up with no food but I managed to split the last beer with a co-worker. After the Mariners won, we went to a nearby bar to wish our one friend/former co-worker Janelle a farewell. She was starting her roadtrip back to MN the next day. So it really sucked my crew at work missed

Epro Kayaking

We had off on a friday a few months back and decided our team at WONGDOODY should do something fun so we went kayaking on South Lake Union. Great day out on the water. We had lunch afterwards at Aqua Verde. I had yam soft tacos which were AMAZING. Diced up with amazing flavor. Check out my manager Dave's photos.... Oh and we also had a Creative Services BBQ which is part of the office. Its baby season at wongdoody. Several coworkers had babies and two more are on maternity leave. Below is 1. the McCann crew, 2. Eric's wife Christina and son Dexter, 3. Jason Hall & his little girl, 4. group shot, 5. Jo Jo and Eric, 6. Tanya's husband Mark, baby Adelle and Dave with little Skylar
