St. Paddy's Weekend in Portland

Image
This past weekend was spent in Portland. I had a "galooper" experience prior to leaving Seattle. I swore Amtrak's site said departure 7:45am. A friend dropped me off at the train station at 7:24, plenty of time to print my express ticket and get on board. Once inside, I got my ticket and sat down with 15minutes to kill. I looked at the three gates and did not see a 7:45am posted for Portland. But I saw a 7:30am! So I asked an agent who quickly cb'd to the train operator asking if one more can get on, even though the engine had started and the gates were locked. To my luck, they let me board. The rest of the journey went smooth. I saw in business class and it was a relaxing scenic ride. They even played a movie. It was pretty sweet compared to driving down i-5 in traffic. Upon arrival to Portland it was a beautiful day. Sunny and in the high 60's. I checked into the hotel and proceeded to the Kell's Irish Festival with my friends Tara & Tom. They had be

Fish n' Chips anyone

Growing up in a food loving but non-fish friendly home... I grew up not being fond of seafood. (well with the exception of Tuna fish sandwiches and Fish Sticks which most kids deny is seafood) Most seafood experiences were bad and smelly. When I decided to move to Seattle, I knew I had to start trying more foods; expand my palette. The 1st week I was in Seattle, I went to McCormick & Schmick's (A well known NW Seafood establishment) and had English Sole. Very yummy and didn't smell like fish! The following week, the Wallace's treated a bunch of us to dinner with some out-of-town guest at Anthony's on the Pier. They ordered a handful of appetizers which was perfect for me. I sat there, quietly testing all the different samples. Its been well over two years that I have been here and have now had my fair share of Seafood. I still prefer a good steak over anything but at least have a list of seafood items I do like. For the 1st time today, I tried the traditional "

Commute home

Walking home from work is great. Unlike the bus or driving a car, you can choose every step in your path. I don't have a favorite route yet and I don't mind because I'm seeing something new everyday.

Blue skies above my apartment Originally uploaded by fishnets & bobbypins . On Tuesday night, March 13th, I saw a gorgeous view when I returned to my apartment. I took a bunch of photos. Click on photo to see more. I haven't been writing as much in my blog. Probably because I'm still adjusting to my new job, its new location and busy hanging out with fellow seattlelites. Our office's new location is great. We are in the heart of the city, across the street from the Waterfont Piers/Attractions & Ferry Terminal and about 5 blocks from Pike Place Market. Because of the touristy stuff, there are tons of places to eat. I have been walking home from work on nice days. I keep telling myself that when it gets super nice out, that on Mondays I will walk to work, stop by the market for a $5 bouquet of flowers so I have pretty flowers to look at all week. I sometimes stroll through the market on Sundays and get flowers but haven't done that in months due to the cr
