Change is good but I'm sad about it
As mentioned in previous post, I love my apartment. I really do. Its comfy, is in a central location and has been nicknamed by friends as the Bachelorette Pad with the best view of the Space Needle.
I'm trying to save money and my biggest expense is this downtown apartment. My lease is up in a few weeks and they are raising the rent. I don't want to move. Last year I was offered rent $20 cheaper a month without even asking because that was based on the current market. I asked them to lower it this year and it was a no-go. They are raising it when I already know I can find many cheaper places. I may not want to move but I need to.
The hunting was stressful since it began during an emotional time for me. I was in PA for my grandmom's funeral when I started looking and there is a high a chance I will have to go back soon for grandpop within the next week. It was hard to focus on finding a home when my heart missed my grandmom and hurt for my grandpop. I don't want him to be in pain and I want to be able to be there as soon as my family needs me.
The good news is that I have found a new home and sign the lease tomorrow.
It actually has two names: Union Arms/Union Manor.
(I like the name Union Arms better but it would confuse visitors since the main entrance to be buzzed in is under the Manor door)
The Union Arms/Union Manor Building was built in 1925. Its the same amount of square feet but a more traditional studio layout that includes a dining area. I may not have a concierge, a garden to lounge in or an amazing view but I'm saving over $200 a month and will be in a building that has amazing pre-1940 architecture and in a new neighborhood that has much to offer. I'll be a block from a foodstore, my bank and a few blocks from much more. There is a small, pretty park a block away and another bigger park several blocks away that is always packed with people. Several dance studios and my favorite yoga studios are just a few blocks away too. I looked at several places and similar to my current apartment, something just felt right.
Like my old apartment, the new place will have lots of storage. I love the glass cabinets in the dining area and all the cabinets in the kitchen. There are even shelves under the dining room window. I will probably make the dining area my craft/art area. Below are some photos I took today when I paid my security deposit.
Here is the new floor plan
