Good times in Cali Part 2-Shops
I only got to venture into a few independent shops over the weekend in San Francisco. You can click on photo for a zoomed in few. What was the purpose? I like finding things made by creative people. I like stationary, artwork, t-shirt designs. I knew of a few shops in the city that I wanted to check out during this trip.
1st was Doe down in Haight Ashbury. I found it through Jill Bliss, the designer of the notebook I carry with me. Doe carries a bunch of her stuff and also Prairie Underground, the clothing company my friend Lisa works for. CUTE little shop! Like most boutiques, the clothing was somewhat expensive but really nice designs and materials. I bought a top and some cool stationary for a friend.
Then I ventured up to Nob Hill to check out a few other shops. I loved Picnic. A little shop on Polk Street. Their website is under construction. I wanted to get a certain shirt but darn, they were out of my size. I left empty-handed but will remember to re-visit on my next trip back.
I then traveled down to the Mission neighborhood to check out 826 Valencia, the pirate shop. It was crowded so I only went through part of the store before needing some fresh air. The fresh air was more than rewarding when I found a cute little shop across the way called Little Otsu. Tons of cool stationary, calendars and funny t-shirts. I walked out with a couple pieces of clever design work.
I learned on my bus ride to Kurt's that a huge former prison with a pirate flag in the Mission housed a huge porn production company. I had tried to take a photo of the huge flag before the sun glare caught it and the bus driver filled me in on what the place was. That was an interesting fact I could share with Kurt about his new town.
