Menu hunters....

Canlis is taking a cue from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The Seattle restaurant is celebrating its 60th birthday on December 11th. The mark the occasion, the grandsons of the original founder are taking the idea of Willy Wonka's golden ticket and putting a high tech spin to it.

"Everybody would like to find a golden ticket and win something" says Brain Canlis. He along with his brother Mark Canlis are the third generation owners of Canlis.

They call it a "foodie's treasure hunt". Every day until December 11th, the brothers are hiding a specially marked Canlis menu somewhere in Seattle. This isn't their current menu, but a copy of the original menu when the restaurant first opened.

If you find one, you could win dinner at 1950s prices. See the 1950s menu here.

"That's the fun part, to look at the old menu and see the prices" says Mark Canlis. In 1950, a Filet Mignon was $3.85. A salmon steak was $2.75. Canlis' signature salad was $1.25 and a lobster tail was $4.00. Currently a Filet Mignon is $48.00.

The restaurant is putting out clues to the locations of 50 menus hidden around town. Of course, they're using Facebook and Twitter (@Canlis) to do this.

The menus are being hidden today. You have until Dec. 11 (the actual birthday of Canlis) to find one and bring it in to the restaurant for dinner for two at 1950s prices, which means two people can eat a four-course meal for $10.

Their first clue was "squish a beatle with your hand". Within an hour, someone had found the specially marked menu at the sculpture of the troll underneath the Aurora Bridge. It was behind the wheel of the Volkswagen that's being eaten by the troll.

The second clue was a picture of the cover of the December 11th 1950 issue of Time magazine with the clue "It's Time to start a restaurant". Within a half hour, someone found the menu tucked inside a archive of old Time magazine issues on the seventh floor of the Seattle Public Library. If you found that exact issue, you would have found the menu.

Each menu has a specific code on it to prevent forgeries. The contest started October 19 and go until December 11th. There will be 50 menus, 50 tweets, 50 winners - game on.
