Spaced Out

I just attended a Member's Preview of the "Spaced Out! The Final Frontier in Album Covers" exhibit at the EMP (Experience Music Project)
Spaced Out Exhibit

117 spaced-themed record album covers released between the 1940s and 1969,the dawn of the space age. In the post-war years, humanity seemed on the verge of taking a giant leap into space. Futuristic themes filled popular culture. Space was the place, and everyone wanted to be there. Musicians thronged to the fad, and space themes invaded album covers of every genre including pop, jazz, folk and classical.

As a graphic designer & love for all things vintage, I loved the exhibit. Isn't the one guy wierd in the album cover below? ANd what about the singing group posing like they are checking out rocks on the moon in tuxedos. Very funny!

I wonder if this guy was crazy

While I was at the museum, I remembered that legendary musician and inventor Les Paul passed away today at the age of 94. Most the music I love wouldn't exist if it wasn't for him and his creation of the electric guitar. Here is the 1952 Gibson Les Paul guitar on display at the EMP.
We owe much thanks to Les Paul.
