I spent last Tuesday through Saturday in Mexico with some of my dearest friends. Kurt was marrying Stacey at Hotel Catalonia in Riviera Maya so family and friends gathered for a few days to vacation and celebrate. SEVENTY-THREE people flew in..maybe more for the wedding!!!!

Some highlights and interesting moments:
ACCOMMODATIONS: Resort was really nice. Food so-so. Most of us were not happy with room accommodations but we managed and got over it. I shared a room with Mike and Ryan.Resort was overbooked. Our room was much nicer and newer than the majority of the resort but it only had a king size bed. They brought an extra bed for me so the guys can share the king. It was a joke as to whether or not the bed on the walkway would ever get upstairs to our room for me since I saw it on my way to dinner.

POOLSIDE DRINKING: Kurt and Stacey gave each guest an insulated mug with survivor goodies on the inside. It was funny seeing waiter trays with the mugs amongst the other drinks. Kurt and Mike drank BAHAMA-MAMA's most the time. After one day of trying various drinks, I decided the safest best was sticking to the frozen margarita. I had a nice constant buzz for a few days. haha

FOOD: Food was interesting. Most buffets were american food with a Mexican influence. I know Mike was happy with his hamburger and fries. We had the option to make reservations at the nicer restaurants but people snag the best times when they book at 7/8am in the morn and the fellas and I did not care to lose sleep over it.

The Wedding: ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! The wedding was set at the far end of the resort, on the beach. Us gals in the bridal party had to walk around a pool down on to the beach where the wedding was. While we proceeded to the beach, people stopped swimming, playing and they all stood in attention of us passing by. It felt like a funeral except filled with happiness. I was the first to walk down the aisle and good thing I have experience cuz the spanish speaking wedding coordinator just told me to go. Stacey’s cousin Aisling from Ireland sang a Fleetwood Mac song while her dad Kevin played guitar. That brought tears to my eyes. Kevin gave them a VERY sentimental gift at the wedding. Not only playing the music, Kevin is a woodsman and carved a candle holder and wine cup out of Stacey’s grandmother’s tree in Ireland. Stacey and Kurt drank from the cup during the ceremony. Simply beautiful. It was windy but the weather all week was GREAT.

TULUM RUINS
Friday a group of us got a person to shuttle us to the local ruins in Tulum. Very pretty to walk through but you couldn’t go near any of the ruins which is understandable. My favorite part of that adventure was going on the beautiful beach and swimming in the Caribbean. Two wedding guest lost their glasses in the waves but the flower pin I wore from the wedding on stayed and became my island wearable. I’m not usually a fan of the beach and sand but this spot was amazing.

THE SPRING BREAKERS
Oh lordy....if their mom’s could see how they dance with each other at the night club. It was funny to see one kid floating from one girl to the next grinding eachother, kissing eachother and then the following day seeing his mom or some chaperone putting sunscreen on him. Haha!

LATE NIGHT SING-ALONG
Kurt was wise and brought his guitar so Ryan and Stacey’s uncle Kevin took turns playing songs. Problem was, no one could rememeber 2nd verses so we were running out of songs to play!

CANCUN AIRPORT
I was wise and brought my small carry-on bag with one sole purpose...upon returning I would buy Tequila!!! There is a limit, so I bought two for home and then small bottles for a few co-worker and friends. Ryan and I both almost missed our flights. Both flights were delayed so we decided to go to one of the bars to drink. We closely watched the departure screen but eventually heard Ryan’s name being announced. He left, I got my check and upon arriving at my gate they started calling for me. NEITHER FLIGHT said boarding on the departure screen. Other flights did but ours did not! Next time, no hanging out at the bar!

I’m sure I’m forgetting some highlights but overall it was a great trip. Here is a slide show. Make sure to go to my actual flickr site because I’m now able to pos photos directly to that, than putting on a different site. SO check out the videos in my Mexico set.
